Private Pump Stations for Adoption

With a change in law making pumping stations on private land the responsibility of water companies nationwide, Anglian Water wanted to get ahead of the game and ensure that all those in its care were safe and serviceable prior to the official deadline.

Anglian Water implemented a large scale PR campaign in order to locate all the pumping stations across the region. Once discovered, all sites would need to be brought up to a safe and serviceable standard. For ease of monitoring, Anglian Water required a telemetry solution that was compact, easy to install, reliable, up to WITS standards and delivered ROI.

Over 1200 sites across Essex, East Anglia and North Lincolnshire have so far been identified and upgraded with Servelec Technologies’ plug-and-play solution. This now provides 24/7/365 visibility of Anglian Water’s adopted assets, ranging from single pump units in residents’ back gardens to larger 3-pump installations.

The Telemetry Solution

The S2000micro WITS and Native DNP3 based intelligent RTU with optional integrated pump controller functionality enables accurate monitoring and control for everyday automation applications when cost and reliability are paramount.

Simon Harrison, Telemetry and Automation Manager at Anglian Water

"Our engineers have reported to me how the clever design of the unit has made it very straightforward to install, which is perfect for a project manager. Because each device is so easy to install, we have been able to save a significant amount of time and money on this part of the project, thanks to the commitment and skill of the team at Servelec Technologies.”

Teamwork

Through a collaborative approach with the client, Servelec Technologies came up with a quick-deploy solution that met all of Anglian Water’s requirements. Together, the team developed a project plan to ensure smooth roll out of all the units, encompassing streamlined delivery timescales, compatible testing procedures and configuration of the units to meet Anglian Water’s specific plug-and-play requirements. By pre-loading site IDs and SIM cards, and configuring the back-plates and wiring, Servelec created a turnkey solution that can be installed in minutes. Servelec then provided training to all installation engineers and created on-site diagnostic tools to check accurate installation, to ensure that the project roll-out was as easy as possible for the programme delivery team.

Andy Crouch, Telemetry & Automation Technical Design & Strategy Manager at Anglian Water

"We are over the moon with the product and with the service we’ve received from Servelec Technologies. The robust Seprol units have so far been 100% reliable: we’ve not had a single failure. With still more assets to identify for adoption, we will definitely come back to Servelec Technologies for these devices. Their flexible project approach streamlined the process and made everything as easy as possible for us.”
